Senior officer's sword of large cavalry to the model of grenadier on horseback of the consuls' guard. Handle covered with stingray with watermark. Superb gilded brass frame. Short skirted cap, carved with a lion's nose, 7 stars and a palm. Important multi-branch guard ending in rooster heads and rosettes. Shell with pomegranate. Quillon at the head of an eagle. Large curved blade with flat back in damask with counter-edged edge, decorated with trophies of arms, symbols and moon. Wooden sheath covered with leather with three gold brass trims. Engraved and carved with foliage and streaks. Bouterolle engraved with water leaves and spears. B.E . First Empire period . A document dated 23 February XII is attached with the letterhead of Brigadier General Ordener commanding the corps of grenadiers on horseback of the Consuls Guard addressed to Colonel Bessières commanding the 11th regiment of horse hunters . It is probably a sword that belonged to an officer of the mounted grenadiers of the Consular Guard who pursued his career in the line that kept the mount of his sword, by modifying the blade and the sheath.
