Stapled, paper over lay, back stickers and labels glued on the back, untrimmed. New edition of this famous work which contributed to spread the taste for the study of experimental physics in France. It is the work of the physicist Jean Antoine Nollet (1700-1770). The edition is illustrated with a frontispiece and 116 folding plates . Rare copy of which the 6 volumes under dominant paper of the time show on the back a distinct popular vignette, engraved and in colors, of the revolutionary period, giving in particular 3 very rare representations of dancers. Each character is accompanied by a legend: Cateau à la belle Jambe au Bastringue de Vaugirard. - The fine Jingeolet dancer. - The Citizen Tapogionici Tambourine of love. - L'Indolente Julie at the promenade of Cours la reine. - The intrepid Manon the jumper of the Port à l'Anglais. - The Vigorous Jerome. Port de la Halle aux Bleds. The label with the author's name on the back is missing from 4 volumes. The engraved thumbnails show tears and some lacks. Dirty blankets, some tears around the edges. The first cover flat, the first 20 pages and the first 2 plates of the last volume have been damaged by a large amount of wetness that glued several pages together and caused the loss of several parts of the text.
