DORÉ (Gustave). Collection of 25 scores... - Lot 40 - Ader
DORÉ (Gustave). Collection of 25 scores of songs by Gustave Nadaud , illustrated with a vignette by Gustave Doré. Paris: Au Ménestrel, Heugel & Cie, s.d. - 25 leaflets, in sheets. In the 1860s, song scores by the poet and chansonnier Gustave Nadaud (1820-1893) appeared in the Illustration. They were published at the same time as a collection or separately by Heugel. Thirty-three of these scores were illustrated with a woodcut vignette by Gustave Doré and Heugel published 32 of them separately, which is very difficult to assemble today. Here we have 22 of these 32 scores. They consist of two or three folios and the illustration is on the title, in a beautiful rocaille frame. It includes the following titles: The Lady in Pastel (2 ex.). - The Horseman. - The Foot Soldier. - The Appointment (2 ex.). - Etamine (2 ex.). - The Cold in Paris. - The Unhappy Ones. - Love song. - The Two Shadows. - Stomach. - Advice to Mary. - April 15th. - St Mathieu de la Drôme. - Le Pommier. - Atonement. - Black and white hair. - The Favourite Book. - Gros John's Bosses. - Tomorrow (2 ex.). - Praise life. - The Portrait of Toinon. - The Indian Prince. We enclose 3 other rare separate scores and a collection of songs, each illustrated with a very beautiful lithograph by Gustave Doré :- Bembaki & le diable. Ballad of Edmond Got. Music by Edmond Membrée. Paris: Au Ménestrel, Heugel & Cie, s.d. - 4 ff. in-folio, in sheets. First and last separate sheets. - The Lone King. Melody for Bass voice.
