[NADAR (Félix Tournachon, says)] - FARCOT (Eugene). From Paris to Tournay in 3 hours: Journey of the balloon the Louis-blanc.
[Paris: Dentu, 1873]. - In-12, 181 x 117: 94 pp., (1 f.). Red chagrin, triple gilt fillet framed on the covers, spine ribbed
and decorated, inside gilt lace, gilt head, untrimmed (contemporary binding). A

containing Nadar's preface, which will be deleted in the 1874 edition, is

the account of the voyage of the balloon the Louis-Blanc made on October 12, 1870 by Eugène Farcot who had just joined the team of aeronauts founded by Nadar. The mission of the flights it organized was to communicate "messages from the State ... and also all the correspondence of the besieged Parisians. The Louis-Blanc was the third mail balloon to go. Farcot had never made an ascent, but Nadar trusted him enough to

 let

 him

lead the ball. The journey was perilous but successful.
Precious personal copy by Nadar, with several autograph additions and corrections in the preface, notably on page 14, and some
notes and pencil corrections in Farcot's text (pp. 24 and 27).
 Nadar added 3 notes.
The first
 two
, signed, appear on the first white guard : 1st copy. NEtThis
edition was printed in only 6 numbered copies with the preface. My brave Farcot, whom I had refused to correct when he asked me to, wanted to modify certain parts of my preface, which I did not ask him to do. He thought it was a little too lively; I didn't think it was lively enough. I cut out my little job and we're
 still in agreement.
 The third
note appears at the head of the preface

: "This copy alone contains this preface which the excellent man, author of this little book, had asked me for, but which seemed to cause him some apprehension. He asked me to delete it from the published edition, which I did.
