Mars School sword. Bronze mount. Handle chiselled with scales. One-branch steel hilt, two half-brown brass crucifix decorated with the Liberty cap and two inverted downward iron quillons, balls, in brass. Straight blade with median edge. Brass scabbard with embossed decoration with two punctures in green cloth. Palmette stinger. A.B.E. Founded in June 1794 and intended to provide a republican and military education, the École de Mars was very short-lived: it was dissolved in October of the same year. The outfit and the sword are designed by the painter David. Each of the cadets was provided with a sword, the sheath of which had a piece of felt of a different colour according to rank: red, the most common, yellow, green and blue.
