King's bodyguard sword, 1st model, 1814. Handle covered in shagreen with filigree. Gilded and chiselled brass mount. Guard with four branches and shell with the "Armes de France" on a background of four flags, branches of oak leaves and laurel leaves. Curved blade, flat back, engraved "Manure Rle du Klingenthal September 1814", with counter-edged, gutter and hollow sides, punched at the heel and engraved on one side with two fleurs-de-lis, "Garde du corps du Roi" and trophies of arms; on the other side, "Armes de France", radiant sun and trophies of arms. Leather scabbard, (partly unsewn), with three large trimmings, two rings and two gilded brass studs, cut, punched and decorated with a raised line. B.E. The King's bodyguards are made up of 6 companies (i.e. 2,686 men) on 25 May 1814. 781 sabres were delivered in 1814 and 748 sabres the following year by the Manufacture of Versailles. For the manufacture of Klingenthal, 400 sabres are delivered in 1814 and 1198 in 1815. This weapon will disappear with the regiment in 1829.
