Sword of the 1st Company of Musketeers of the King's House, model 1814. Gilded brass frame. Handle covered with basane with filigree. Short skirted cap, raised at the line. Five-branch guard (type of battle), underlined with net. Round cheeked shell with silver, flamed and gold fleur-de-lys cross of the Musketeers. Counterguard with two branches and palmettes. Curved downward chiselled quillon with melon ribs. Straight blade with flat back, signed " Frères Weyesberg à Solingen ", with counter-edged and double hollow sides, punched at the heel. Leather sheath with three trimmings, two brass studs and two brass rings. B.E. Reinstated on 15 June 1814, the musketeers disappeared for good on 1 September 1815. The First Company, the so-called "grey" musketeers because of the colour of their horses' coats, was 255 strong.
