Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT (1796-1875)Fraicheurs... - Lot 1 - Ader
Jean-Baptiste Camille COROT (1796-1875)Fraicheurs matinales, 1871Oil on the bottom of the lid of a small box. Signed lower right. 8 x 15 cmProvenance: Jean-Jules Pinardon. By descent. Bibliography : Alfred Robaut, Étienne Moreau-Nélaton, L'Œuvre de Corot : catalogue raisonné et illustré, Tome 3, Paris, 1905, n° 2452, reproduced. Handwritten mention on the back of the frame: "This little trinket was made in Arleux-du-Nord, at Mr. Alfred Robaut's home and for him. The latter made daily use of a box that Corot found ugly to contain some ingredients for his meal. He said to him: "Change this box and you will have one my way. The box was ordered from the carpenter, and Corot quickly decorated the inside of the lid. Since it was painted by the master, the little box has never left the table of the person to whom he gave it . The "old box" is attached, as well as the box from which the painted panel with the following handwritten inscription on the edge is taken: "1871 Corot wanted to offer me this box which he ordered from a carpenter in Arleux".
