Pellechet, 5124. - This volume is the second of the first collective edition of the works of the philosopher and theologian Jean Gerson (1363-1429), printed in Cologne by Joannes Koelhoff . Gerson was in the line of the great humanists and a master of the French language, at the same time a renowned theologian, a spiritual author of high value, a peacemaker for the Church, a poet, a recognized pedagogue and an authentic mystic. He was Chancellor of the University of Paris and for more than three years, from 1415 to 1418, he took an active part in the Council of Constance, after which he was unable to return to Paris because of the hostility of the Burgundian party. After a brief stay in Austria, he took refuge in Lyon with his brother Jean le Célestin. He lived there in retirement for ten years and died there on July 12, 1429, and was the author of numerous texts, written in both Latin and French, including several sermons, poems and various treatises .
