Brussels Tapestry representing America, titled in the upper part, the border decorated with foliage, flowers, fruits, garland and parrots; signed lower right L. van Schoor pinxit. From the Continents hanging made after Louis van Schoor (1666-1702) and Pierre Spierincx (1635-1711). Late 17th century (restored and reduced in size). H: 340 cm, W: 480 cm The Continents hanging originally consisted of four tapestries representing Africa, Asia, Europe and America, it was later completed by Australia; a complete hanging is now kept in the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon. A copy of America is also kept at the National Gallery in Washington. Généralement enchâssées dans des cadres, rares sont les exemplaires enrichis comme ici d'une large bordure.
