Important flat desk in rosewood and amaranth, the belt opening with five drawers, one forming a safe, with five simulated drawers at the back, the rounded top with a gilded bronze border resting on rounded drop posts and tapered legs with rough fluted flutes finished with spherical shoes. Louis XVI period (restorations and missing parts). H: 78 cm, W: 164 cm, D: 79 cm The principle of a leg, tapered as on this desk, or in the form of a sheath, finished with a sphere, is found on a number of beautiful desks from the Louis XVI period, notably by Jean-François Leleu but also by Étienne Levasseur, who is here a possible attribution for this piece of furniture.
