Solid mahogany armchair, molded and carved,... - Lot 143 - Ader
Solid mahogany armchair, molded and carved, with a curved backrest with overturning, ram's head armrests and acanthus leaf supports, resting on tapered fluted front legs and saber back legs. Stamp of Louis Moreau, cabinetmaker received master in 1764. Louis XVI period. Cabinetmaker's seats, most often made of mahogany at the end of the 18th century, are a rare example of the encroachment of the activity of the corporation of cabinetmakers on the domain of the carpenters' corporation. They are the work of Jean-François Leleu (for the Marquis de Laborde), Pierre Garnier (for the Marquis de Marigny) or Louis Moreau, Jacques Laurent Cosson or Joseph Stockel.
