GOUNOD Charles (1818-1893). L.A.S. "Ch. Gd", London October 4, 1870, to his relative Henri; 1 page and a half in-8. Exile in England during the war. They are very anxious not to hear from them since he learned of the "dreadful misfortune" that befell Henry: "We find the time very long, and absence gives our hearts demands and needs that you will understand". They have learned from the newspapers that Evreux was almost assaulted, and he anxiously asks for news from all of them: "You have more to tell us than we who are on a diet of everything dear to us. ... Anna [his wife] and grandmother are well enough; they are near me, pulling the needle as best they can in our few rags. All of us hugging you tenderly and thinking of you incessantly. […]. What do you think you will do in the future if you are unable to stay? " He signs: "Your brother and friend Ch. Gd ". Afterwards, his mother-in-law Hortense ZIMMERMANN added 16 lines for her "dear children": "every day we suffer so much from this separation that no hope (since every day the events disappoint him more and more) authorizes our return to our unfortunate country"... <
