PUCCINI Giacomo (1858-1924). L.A.S. "Giacomo",... - Lot 1192 - Ader
PUCCINI Giacomo (1858-1924). L.A.S. "Giacomo", Milan March 31, 1906, to Sybil SELIGMAN in London; 1 pages in-4, address on verso with stamps; in Italian. Interesting letter about an opera project with Gabriele D'ANNUNZIO . He has received the letter from his dear Sybil, which was forwarded from Torre del Lago, and mentions various news, including Sybil's conflict with the cook; one obviously takes advantage of her extreme kindness . [Paoli] TOSTI is well, but he says he's tired of this kind of life. Tomorrow they will go to Monza for lunch, alone, to breathe a little more freely... La Figlia [La Figlia di Iorio, an opera by Alberto Franchetti (1860-1942) with a libretto by Gabriele D'Annunzio, premiered at La Scala on March 29] was half a fiasco. They are now in close talks to conclude the libretto with D'ANNUNZIO. He believes that D'Annunzio will decide that very day ["Ora siamo in trattative strette per combinare il libretto con D'Annunzio. Oggi credo si deciderà "]. The car is on its way from Nice and should arrive. Fosca is delighted with the hat. He would like a fancy half-summer outfit. He'll return to Torre for 4 or 5 days, then he'll go to Budapest until the end of April... [The two projects planned with Gabriele D'Annunzio are Parisina after Byron, and The Rose of Cyprus; neither will come to fruition.] <
