Richard WAGNER (1813-1883). L.A.S., [Paris 26 June 1860], to his publisher Gustave Flaxland; 1 page in-8 on pink peel paper (tabbed with old English translation); in German. He's annoying Flaxland again! He is very busy today; his servant is very stupid and doesn't understand French. Wagner knows that there is a lot of chicanery associated with sending music, but in any case the publisher has to have someone who takes care of these things properly. So he begs him to be so kind as to unravel the package of music that has arrived (he hopes it is Tannhaüser's much desired score), so that he has it before tonight? On January 4, 1860, Wagner had signed a contract with the Parisian music publisher Gustave Flaxland (1831-1899) for the publication of his works in French. Between April and July 1861, the score for voice and piano and a few detached pieces from the French version of Tannhäuser were thus published by Flaxland, but the score for voice and piano of the French version of the Vaisseau fantôme translated by Wagner and Nuitter did not appear until 1864].
