Rare Fayyumi Ware ceramic bowls, Fatimid Egypt, 11th-12th centuryIn slippery clay ceramic, the larger one with incised decoration of four semicircles bordering the lip, the whole covered with brown and green glazes; the smaller one with green glaze decoration forming dots, yellow glaze on the reverse. Diameter: 18.7 and 11 cm; height: 6.7 and 4.5 cm . This type of ceramics decorated with large coloured drips under a glossy glaze comes from Egypt and is generally associated with the Fayyum Oasis. See a large bowl very similar to ours in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (OC.151-1946).
