Shamshir type sword, Iran, 18th century (blade) and Ottoman Turkey or Balkans (fittings) .Large curved blade in damascus steel with flat back and chased in the upper part on one side, of a poly-lobed medallion containing an illegible Arabic inscription, probably a name of owner. Fusée in stick of pistol with plates of blond horn and guard with double conical quillons out of silver niellé of a floral decoration. Wooden scabbard with metal trimmings embossed with a scroll decoration, punctuated with silver plates nielloed in the upper part and holding the grip rings. Middle section wrapped in ochre velvet. L. without scabbard : 93,5 cm ; gross weight : 1260 gBroken blade tip , traces of oxidation and rust, fragmentary velvet sheath, some shocks and wear .
