Earthenware composite bowl with laurel wreath, Abbasid Iran or Iraq, 9th century and 20th century EuropeAn earthenware bowl with a flared lip and painted decoration of a laurel wreath framing a branch of the same shrub in cobalt blue on a white background. This composite piece was probably made late from original earthenware shards. Diameter : 21 cmRestoration , composite piece. The laurel branch motif, repeated on this bowl to form a crown, is reminiscent of the legacy of antiquity in this early Islamic art. It is known from several Abbasid potteries such as the dish with the laurel wreath in the Louvre Museum (MAO. S. 343) or the bowl K.1.2014.210 in the Keir Collection, Dallas Museum of Art.
