Large tray decorated with Hindu deities, South India, Tanjore, 19th centuryOctagonal in shape, made of copper alloy with silver inlaid decoration, floral friezes surrounding a cartouche decorated with three Hindu deities framed by two pairs of birds facing each other, the vault decorated with a frieze of tongues The deities represented are probably Vishnu in the centre with his mace, surrounded on the left by Saraswati with the peacock and on the right by Lakshmi with her urn of coins. A number inscribed on the reverse: "Nr. 1647". 36.2 x 33.3 cmOxidation . Several libation vases executed in this technique with similar decoration are in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (see nos. IS.3025-1883, IS.3030-1883, IS.3033-1883).
