ALBERT-LOUIS DAMMOUSE (1848-1926) CERAMIST... - Lot 15 - Ader
ALBERT-LOUIS DAMMOUSE (1848-1926) CERAMIST & GUSTAVE MICHEL (1851-1924) SCULPTOR Melancholy after reading, circa 1900 Sculpture. Stoneware proof partially engobed. The end of the umbrella restored, inner hair from firing. Signed G. MICHEL on the terrace and bears the monogram A. D. S. (for Albert DAMMOUSE in Sevres) inside. Height : 40 cm Related works: Few collaborative works between the sculptor Gustave Michel and the ceramist Albert Dammouse are known to date. At the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1898, the catalogue mentions "a showcase: stoneware" without further details; we only know of this shipment, as it concerns pieces made with Gustave Michel, the Tête de vieillard (Head of an old man) now in the Musée de Sèvres. The various archives consulted and the publications of the time mention only three collaborative works: Richelieu, the Tête de vieillard and Atalante. We also know that Gustave Michel presented two terracotta sculptures at an exhibition devoted to him in 1911, one titled Pêcheurs de perles and the other Heures sombres. Finally, it should be noted that a sculpture by the two artists in partially slip-coated terracotta, entitled La pudeur (Modesty), is kept at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Reims under the inventory number 907.19.421. Unfortunately, due to the health crisis, we could not have access to all the institutions we would have liked to approach.
