EUGÈNE PRINTZ (1879-1948) Broken lines,... - Lot 41 - Ader
EUGÈNE PRINTZ (1879-1948) Broken lines, March 1934, the only example in this species known to date, very probably a unique piece, variant in Patawa palm veneer of the model in rosewood veneer presented at the XXIIIth Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Paris, 1933, and acquired by the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1936 Exceptional chest of drawers with 7 drawers in Patawa palm veneer. The suspended body has a central projection on its top and opens with a horizontal series of three drawers in the lower part, topped by two wide drawers and two narrow ones. Each drawer has a top edge lined with a sponge-oxidized brass plate and a herringbone-shaped grip, also in oxidized brass. The base is entirely plated with sponge-oxidized brass and houses the front foot, also in sponge-oxidized brass, with herringbone friezes set in volutes. The sides are supported by long tongues in oxidized brass. The inside of the drawers is made of sycamore maple. This piece of furniture was restored about twenty years ago on the initiative of its owner; only the varnish and the oxidation decoration with a sponge on the brass parts have been redone and some restorations have been made. No element was modified or replaced during this intervention, so the integrity of the work was completely preserved. Stamped with the monogram E. P. in a circular cartouche on the right side of the front. Height: 87 cm - Length: 150 cm - Depth: 40 cm Provenance: - Mr. and Mrs. X., relatives of the artist.
