PAUL JOUVE (1878-1973) Panther on the move, the model created around [1930], from a print run initiated in 1938 and produced in only 7 copies Bas-relief. Proof in bronze; the fawn with a nuanced brown patina, the background with a golden patina. Lost wax casting made under the artist's supervision. Antique edition made by Claude Valsuani, founder. Original frame with oak columns stained in the style of a bronze patina. Restorations to the wooden frame. Signed JOUVE on the lower right of the bronze bas-relief and bears an old label of the Garde-meubles Médernac in Paris (the artist's furniture store) on the back. With frame : 61 x 114 cm Bas-relief only : 47 x 91 cm Important: We would like to thank the artist's successor for confirming the authenticity of this work and for all the information he has given us about it. Provenance : - Mr X., Paris, work bought directly from the artist. - Mrs F., Paris, daughter of the previous owner. History: This bas-relief, the largest made by Paul Jouve, was offered only by subscription. Initially, 10 copies were planned, all cast by Claude Valsuani, under the artist's control and as orders came in. In the end, only seven proofs were made. Exhibitions and Museum : - Paul Jouve - Galerie Druet, Paris, from December 5th to 16th 1938. A proof of our sculpture model was presented during this exhibition. - Paul Jouve and Jean Després - Paul Jouve's workshop, Paris VI, from June 7th to 11th 1967. A proof of our sculpture model was presented during this event. - Musée des Années 30 - Boulogne-Billancourt. Another proof of our sculpture model is kept in the collections of this institution under the inventory number 2001.4.9. (Gift of Madame Jouve).
