Bernard BUFFET (1928-1999). 2 typescripts signed, and a manuscript written in his name by Pierre Bergé, [February 1958]; 4 and a half pages and 1 and a half pages in-4, and 2 and a half pages in-4. Attached is a manuscript a.s. by André François, Le Trompe-l'oeuf dans la décoration (1 p. in-4); plus 2 pages of an unidentified text on art. Typescript of an interview by André Parinaud [partly published in Arts, February 19, 1958], notably on abstract art ("I am violently against [...] abstract experience is a dead end," "young painting," etc.); he crossed out the last two questions and answers before signing. On another sheet, Pierre Bergé answered four more questions for Buffet; Buffet signed. Arts asked Buffet to attend the presentation of Christian DIOR's collection (after the couturier's death on October 24, 1957), prepared by Yves SAINT-LAURENT; it was Pierre BERGÉ who wrote (and signed "Bernard Buffet") the text that appeared in Arts on February 5, 1958. Buffet said he knew nothing about fashion, but Christian Dior was a friend, and he was anxiously awaiting the new collection: "I didn't know Yves Saint-Laurent and I wasn't unaware that the committed part was becoming fraught with consequences. It had to be won! "... She won it, from the very first models, thanks to a young man of indisputable qualities... " It's been said that Christian Dior was a magician.
