Clavel evokes L'Alouette d'Anouilh, Jeanne d'Arc de Péguy, modern criticism, Vie d'Anatole France, Jeanne d'Arc and her judges by Thierry Maulnier, etc. Joan is in turn sublime, false, fearful...
