Alexandre DUMAS father (1802-1870). Autograph... - Lot 101 - Ader
Alexandre DUMAS father (1802-1870). Autograph manuscript for Lorenzino, [1842]; 2 pages and a quarter large in-fol. Important fragment of work, with erasures and corrections, of a scene from the drama Lorenzino, premiered at the Théâtre-Français on February 24, 1842. The subject is the same as Musset's Lorenzaccio: the assassination of the tyrant of Florence, Duke Alexander, by his cousin and favorite Lorenzo de Medici. This double-page spread gives a variant of scene iv of Act II, between Michele and Lorenzino. The first page is in prose: Michele is going to play a scene from the tragedy of Brutus composed by Lorenzino, playing the role of Brutus, and he asks Lorenzino to give him the reply, playing the role of Caesar. The continuation is in verse, between Brutus and Caesar, until Brutus' reply: "No Caesar is a God".
