Isidore ISOU (1925-2007). Typescript signed with autograph additions and corrections, Non! l'art moderne n'est pas né en Russie, [November 1955]; 6 in-4 typed pages. Attached is the first page of the mimeographed tract of the Situationists' Address to all workers, [May 1968]. A polemical article by the Lettrist, with important corrections and additions, for the weekly Arts, in response to "Au temps de l'avant-garde" by Michel Seuphor, in L'œil. "Our colleague's essay seems to indicate a new turn in Slavic criticism: until now modernist aesthetic values were treated as degenerate Western inventions capable of poisoning the great people of the East. From now on, avant-garde art would be nothing more than an invention of the sons of the steppe! "... Isou reminds us that French symbolism preceded new Russian poetry; he contests the claim to Russian anteriority in collections, precursors and progress of the schools of painting and poetry, re-establishing Marinetti before Moscow's Rayonnisme, and Malevitch after Mondrian and Picasso. Seuphor multiplies "inaccurate insinuations to the last trick where he claims that Mr. Illiazd, inventor (sic) of "Zaoum" "published one of the most original books of the century, The Poetry of Unknown Words" (in 1950!) ", whereas Isou himself had invented Lettrism and had forged its laws as early as 1946. He also recalls the phenomenon of petit-russisme born after Stalin's arrival in power.
