A polemical article by the Lettrist, with important corrections and additions, for the weekly Arts, in response to "Au temps de l'avant-garde" by Michel Seuphor, in L'œil. "Our colleague's essay seems to indicate a new turn in Slavic criticism: until now modernist aesthetic values were treated as degenerate Western inventions capable of poisoning the great people of the East. From now on, avant-garde art would be nothing more than an invention of the sons of the steppe! "... Isou reminds us that French symbolism preceded new Russian poetry; he contests the claim to Russian anteriority in collections, precursors and progress of the schools of painting and poetry, re-establishing Marinetti before Moscow's Rayonnisme, and Malevitch after Mondrian and Picasso.
