Notes, sketches and fragments relating to his novel L'Empire céleste (Prix Femina, 1958), its characters (Stéphane Morani, Mrs. Priest, Paul Coban, Henry Strass, Martine Fortin, Miss Lethuit, Dr. Fisher, Socrates) and the plot. "Sc[ène] of Mrs. Priest - accentuate her character (id. scene beginning) and mark that the machine starts up, slowly ... Detailed development on Strass and her painting ...". Scattered notes" on elements to be integrated or developed: "Lou's ferocity. Don't put a sister on him. Dig into his past. Less black than St. tells. Not prostitute, but light girl. Reread p.ê. the passage describing the inner diary useful for liaison. Dig: slight, but only slight, damage to Lou's integrity by Stephane's humiliation.
