Henri Bertrand (1773-1844) General, Grand... - Lot 180 - Ader
Henri Bertrand (1773-1844) General, Grand Marshal of the Palace, Napoleon's faithful companion on Elba and St. Helena. L.A.S., Châteauroux 1 and 1 April 1822, to General Duroc, Duchess of Frioul; 1 page and a half in-8, address. On a bequest from Napoleon to Duroc's daughter, Hortense-Eugénie [the 3rd codicil of his will reads, 4: "I bequeath to the Duchess of Frioul, daughter of Duroc, two hundred thousand francs. If she had died before the execution of the bequest, nothing will be given to the mother. " "I thought I had to give you a complete copy of the codicil which concerns you, you must know it well; I had the excerpts redone in Paris so as not to give you a sentence which might upset you, and which I do not explain. Empr probably thought you were richer than you are. I have consulted here and it is believed that the legacies of the 3rd codicil should be charged to the same funds as those included in the wills. That the sums mentioned in art. 1 and 2 of the 3rd codicil must increase the banker's funds to form the same mass and be distributed among the legatees. Moreover, I believe that this question and any other of this nature will be decided by wise, educated and impartial people "... Former Sacha Guitry collection.
