George SHEA (1826-1895) American magistrate, close to the Confederates. L.S., [New York, circa 1880], to Frederick E. Gibert, Esq.; 1 page in-8 at his address; in English. [Born in Ireland, George Shea was one of the attorneys of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States during the Civil War. He later became Chief Justice of the Marine Court of New York and published several books]. The letter, addressed to the American businessman and philanthropist Frederick E. Gibert (1810-1882), summoned him and close friends to arrange the funeral of their friend William Stuart .
