[DRUMMING] [GOD]. Revision of the conditions... - Lot 300 - Ader
[DRUMMING] [GOD]. Revision of the conditions of distribution of alms to the poor of Die by Jehan de Monluc, "eveque seigneur et comte des eveschés de Die et Valence" In French, act on parchment signed "Monluc de Valence Die" France, Die, May 24, 1559 "in nostredicte cyté et maison episcopale de dye" Dimensions: 460 x 225 mm (excluding the fold at the bottom of the document). Jean de Monluc (1508-1579) was bishop of Valence and Die from 1553 to 1574 and an important political advisor to Queen Catherine de Medici. Close to the ideas of the Reformation, he was long suspected of having adhered to Protestantism, to the point of being threatened with excommunication by the Pope and having to cede his bishopric to his nephew Charles de Gélas de Léberon. Before his appointment as Bishop of Die and Valencia, Francis I had made him a diplomat, secretary of embassy in Rome and then charged with a secret mission in Constantinople to Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
