White silk boards, printed illustration on first board, gilt head, untrimmed, modern slipcase. New edition, printed at 310 copies, of this satirical short story by the German poet Heinrich Heine, which inspired the libretto of The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner. It includes 36 lithographs by Jules PASCIN (1885-1930) for whom this is the first illustrated book: 30 in black (one on the cover, one on the title, 24 in the text and 4 full-page), and 6 stenciled (one off-text on a double page, 4 full-page and one in the text). One of 250 numbered copies on American Old Stratfort paper (n° 93). Jacques Crépineau has enriched it with an engraving by Pascin representing Chas Laborde. Rebound boards with the silk of the original cover brought back. Dirty boards. Very good condition inside.
