PHILIPPE (Charles-Louis). Bubu de Montparnasse. New edition. Paris : Librairie universelle, [1905]. - In-8, 205 x 166: (4 ff. first blank), 250 pp. (3 ff. last 2 blank), printed cover and illustrated cover. Dark brown morocco, boards with a large embossed and painted leather composition signed R. Prath, representing a street scene on the first board, and a couple of backs walking along the Seine on the second board, spine ribbed, gilt fillets and gilt fleuron on the corners inside, gilt head, untrimmed, covers and spine preserved, slipcase (René Kieffer) Beautiful edition printed four years after the original, illustrated with 90 black lithographs in the text or on the full page, and one colour illustration on the cover, by Jules-Félix GRANDJOUAN (1875-1968). The latter is considered as the pioneer of the French political poster; satirist and anti-militarist, he collaborated in particular to L'Assiette au beurre, La Voix du Peuple, Les Temps nouveaux, etc. One of 30 numbered copies on japon paper (n° 3), subscribed by M. Blaizot. Splendid binding by René Kieffer including on the boards two scenes in embossed and painted leather, signed R. Prath probably designating the painter and caricaturist René Prath (1881-1961), contributor to Gil Blas and close friend of Apollinaire. A perfectly preserved copy, complete with the double cover, printed and illustrated, the latter preserved in one piece at the head of the book.
