56Georges LEPAPE's (1887-1971)
true
masterpiece, including 12 plates mounted on tabs and coloured with stencil and gold and silver highlights by Saudé, on a totally innovative orientalist note for the women's fashion of the time
.
Paul Poiret launched, as he put it, cuts and colours "like wolves in a sheepfold".
"Two and a half years after Iribe's album, Lepape's album appeared. Their formats and designs are similar, but the illustrations are different. Lepape has abandoned line drawings and adopted blue, grey or brown outlines. The moods are also different. Whereas Iribe's album had a very French salon atmosphere, Lepape introduces in his stencils an oriental note, made fashionable in Paris by the Ballets Russes" (Pages d'or de l'édition publicitaire).
This album is considered by many to be the most beautiful book on fashion of the time.
