ROSTAND (Maurice) - MARTIN (Charles). La Vie amoureuse de Casanova. Paris : Flammarion, [1930]. - In-8, 268 x 197 : (2 blank ff.), 200 pp, (6 ff. last 3 blank), printed cover. Paperback, filled cover, spotted black paper slipcase, first cover with a circular window showing an illustration by Martin, bordered by strips of silver paper and old rose chagrin, and surmounted by an inlaid red stone, flat spine with a strip of old rose chagrin inlaid in the centre, bearing the title in blue capitals (modern slipcase) Edition of 215 copies, illustrated with 45 coloured etchings by Charles MARTIN, including a frontispiece, 17 headbands, 23 vignettes in the text and 9 culs-de-lampe. One of 20 copies on Hollande Van Gelder Zonen vellum (n° 34), enriched with a suite of the complete state of the coloured etchings with remarks on imperial japan. This suite includes 25 proofs, the small in-text ornaments are not included. A very well preserved copy, enriched with two very beautiful signed drawings by Charles Martin, in the format of the book, and two additional illustrations in black on japon with remarks. Provenance: J. C. Chalanson, with ex-libris, who certainly made the slipcase.
