SEM - ROUBILLE (Auguste). - Lot 626
SEM - ROUBILLE (Auguste). Sem au bois. S.l., [circa 1908]. - Leporello in-folio oblong of 24 sheets mounted on cloth, in a green cloth spine and corners cardboard of the publisher. Very rare album belonging to the series of "Parisian Albums", conceived by Sem in collaboration with Auguste Roubille, featuring a procession of carriages, automobiles and other means of locomotion on which are represented the main personalities of the high society of the time such as King Leopold, the Duke of Brissac, the Prince of Arenberg, the Baron and Baroness of Rothschild, etc., as well as personalities from the literary and artistic world such as Henri Rochefort, Polaire, Mademoiselle Othero, Willy, Colette, Robert de Montesquiou, etc., travelling to Boulogne to attend the horse races. The edition is composed of 24 accordion-folded leaves constituting a frieze 9 meters long. A very well preserved copy despite a tear at the fold between leaves 22 and 23. Each character has been given a number referring to a list of the persons represented which is attached. We enclose: - SEM - ROUBILLE (Auguste). La Grande Semaine (Diorama). S.l., [1909]. - Leporello in-8 oblong, printed cover. Photographic reproduction in black on 6 sheets of the diorama realized in 1909 by Sem and Roubille. It was a transposition of the previous album, which was composed of hundreds of figures and cars cut out and painted in plywood arranged in front of a background. This diorama was 11 meters long and was presented from November 19, 1909 to January 8, 1910 at the Galerie Bruner. It was a great success. It is to keep a trace of this event that this folding souvenir album was published. A very well preserved copy but without the note of the names of the persons represented.
