Paris : printed for independent bibliophiles, Henri Floury, 1896 . - In-8, 230 x 171 : (2 ff.), XII, 232 pp. 30 plates, illustrated covers. Tan calf, boards inlaid with embossed leather decorated with a rich 19th century japanese design, with crickets, dragonflies and flowers, gilt head, untrimmed, double cover preserved (Patrice Goy). First edition published by Octave Uzanne, of this collection of 30 texts by authors, mostly humorists, more or less linked to La Revue Blanche: Gustave Kahn, Tristan Bernard, Romain Coolus, Pierre Veber, Thadée Natanson, Ernest La Jeunesse, Victor Barrucand, Eugène Veek, Paul Adam, Lucien Muhlfeld, Jules Renard, Léon Blum, Alfred Athys, Edmond Pilon and Félix Fénéon. Octave Uzanne wrote the prologue. The edition is illustrated with 33 original wood-engraved compositions by Félix VALLOTTON, including 30 hors texte on japon and 3 in the text, as well as 120 vignettes by François Courboin. It is in this work that Vallotton's name appears for the first time as an engraver. Edition at 220 copies. A very fine copy in a modern binding using a piece of embossed leather with Japanese decoration from the late 19th century on the boards, probably from the original binding. It is complete with the double cover, one of which is on japon pelure decorated with a large composition by Vallotton. The binder has not kept the spines.
