A 171. The Eagle that comes down on a wounded ibex was commissioned by the Duc d'Orléans in 1834 as part of his project for a table top. The final work was delivered in 1839 and sold at auction by the duchess in 1853. The London foundryman Gambard acquired the bronze at this auction and used it as a model for an edition of seven copies.
