[CARICATURE]. NANCY]. MENNESSIER (Edouard) ]Continuation of the story of the hidden, stinking, military, administrative, comical life of Doctor Boc, 1st class drainer, 1st lisp of the Nanci theatre, retired supernumerary, fanatic national guard. Collection of 79 captioned pencil drawings on paper, various sizes. Edouard Mennessier (1811-1888) was the brother-in-law of Marie Mennessier-Nodier (1811-1893), daughter of Charles Nodier . A cartoonist active in Metz and Nancy, he delivers here his most scatological series. There is also an engraving signed Gavarny (Paul Gavarni (1804-1866), a caricaturist active in Paris and close to Nodier: this engraving is published in Balzac, Les Français peints par eux-mêmes (1853)) which refers to the model of his character "Boc" a certain "Charles Lallemand".
