PARIS]. JOUY (rue de)]. OLIVIER (Gaston),... - Lot 30 - Ader
PARIS]. JOUY (rue de)]. OLIVIER (Gaston), archdeacon and canon of Angers]. Donation and cession of "the house, two courtyards and garden...assis en ceste ville de Paris rue de Jouy..." by Gaston Olivier to his cousin François Olivier, chancellor of France "by whom the family of the Oliviers may be represented and continued". In French, deed on parchment, two parchment membranes, several mentions on the back. France, Paris, April 21, 1544Dimensions : 950 x 505 mm. Good general condition, some folds and stains without gravity. Gaston Olivier was lord of Mancy and archdeacon of Angers. He was chaplain to Henry II. He is a very interesting character who was the subject of Françoise Lehoux's study, Gaston Olivier, aumônier du roi Henri II (1552). Bibliothèque parisienne et mobilier du XVIe siècle, Paris [1958]. Françoise Lehoux gives a lot of space to Gaston Olivier's "excellent library", which was partly built up by his uncle Jean Olivier, bishop of Angers. Located in the rue de Jouy in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, the "house" given up and described in this document is in fact the former Hôtel de Mancy, which was formerly part of the Parisian residence of the abbey of Jouy-de-Châtel, and which was from 1479 to 1601 the home of several members of the Olivier family.
