MILBERT (Jacques Gérard). A Picturesque Itinerary of the Hudson River and the Lateral Parts of North America. Paris : Henry Gaugain, Lambert & Cie, [1828]. - Atlas folio, 522 x 344: 52 (of 54) plates, illustrated cover. Half red morocco with corners, gilt filets, red morocco piece bearing the title in gilt letters, framed with gilt filets and fleurons, spine ribbed and decorated (Boersch et Valentin). Single atlas comprising 52 (out of 54) views of the Hudson River valley and the northeastern United States, mainly representing the state of New York. They were lithographed by Victor Adam, Louis-Pierre-Alphonse Bichebois, Isidore-Laurent Deroy, Alexis-Victor Joly, Léon Jean-Baptiste Sabatier, Jean-Louis Tirpenne and Louis-Jules-Frédéric Villeneuve from the life drawings of the painter Jacques-Gérard Milbert (1766-1840). Milbert spent nearly 10 years preparing these drawings which constitute a valuable iconography of the United States in the early 19th century. Copy including all the lithographs in proof on chine collé. Plates 38 and 51 are before the letter. The map and plates 49 and 53 are missing. A fine copy in a contemporary binding signed by Boersch and Valentin, enriched with one of the beautiful delivery covers . Rubbing of the covers and hinges, corners dulled. Some foxing but not affecting the lithographs.
