First edition of this famous book published by Maeght on the occasion of the "Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme presented by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp". Contains texts by André Breton, Benjamin Péret, Victor Brauner, Henry Miller, Julien Gracq, Maurice Nadeau, Georges Bataille, Yves Bonnefoy, Jean Arp, Aimé Césaire, Henri Pastoureau, Jacques Hérold, Hans Bellmer, etc. as well as 44 pages numbered in Roman numerals, decorated with black reproductions of works by the artists exhibited, several drawings in the text and 24 hors-texts, i.e. 5 lithographs in colour by Victor Brauner, Max Ernst, Jacques Hérold, Wifredo Lam and Joan Miró, printed by Mourlot, 5 etchings (one in colour) by Hans Bellmer, Marcel Jean, Maria, Yves Tanguy and Dorothée Tanning, 2 woodcuts by Jean Arp and 12 lithographs in black by Serge Brignoni, Alexandre Calder, Bruno Capacci, Élisabeth Donati, David Hare, Jacqueline Lamba, Matta, Kay Sage, Yves Tanguy and Toyen The edition was limited to 999 copies on superior vellum, this one being one of the 950 numbered in Arabic numerals; it is one of those not including the cardboard folder with the original of an object by Marcel Duchamp, made in collaboration with Enrico Donati (the breast), but only the cover with its photographic reproduction in black, as indicated at the bottom of the justification. It includes the "Please touch" label usually found on the slipcase. Some tears and tears to the crystal paper, tear to the spine.
