GUSTAVE ISAAC LÉVY (ART FOUNDER ACTIVE FROM 1855 TO 1881) - THE MODEL POSSIBLY CREATED BY ÉMILE-AUGUSTE REIBER (1826-1893) - JOLLET & Cie FONDEUR (FORMERLY MAISON COLIN & Cie )The turtle and the crabRare and important japanese clock. Proof in gilded bronze; the carapace of the stylized turtle forming a dial realized with cloisonné enamels with cartouches decorations with geometrical motives and receiving the figures represented by Japanese characters. A crab motif resting on seaweed made of patinated bronze and treated in the naturalist taste sums the chelonian. Complete with its hands figuring, once assembled, a snake and its movement from Dufaud in Paris. The frame, receiving the elements previously described, executed in gilded bronze with openwork motifs of stylized clouds and geometric patterns (Greek type) . Marked (twice) with the monogram of the founder G. I. L. (for Gustave Isaac Levy) at the back of the tail of the turtle and at the back of the seaweed motif receiving the crab, marked with the stamp JOLLET & Cie - Former Mon COLIN & Cie on a rear foot of the frame.
