Hector BERLIOZ (1803-1869). L.A.S., [1839], to Maurice Schlesinger; half-page in-8. [About the ode À Nicolo Paganini by the poet and librettist Felice Romani (1788-1865), which Berlioz translated out of friendship for Paganini; it was published in the Revue et Gazette musicale (15 September 1839, no. 47, pp. 374-376), with this introduction: 'On the occasion of the last concert given at the Carignan theatre for the benefit of the poor by N. Paganini, the famous Romani, of whom we know little in France other than his opera libretti, and who is nevertheless one of the greatest poets of the century in the highest sense of the word, addressed to the illustrious virtuoso an ode sparkling with the rarest of beauty. In spite of the inability of French prose to reproduce the colour and harmony of Italian poetry, our readers will no doubt be grateful to us for giving them the translation sent to us by M. Berlioz"] "My dear Maurice, here is this ode by Romani. It is magnificent! I have revised the translation with the greatest care; but I want to see the proof, so send it to me as soon as it is done"...
