Jules MASSENET (1842-1912). Musical P.A.S., and 3 L.A.S., 1889-1907; 5 pages in-8. The album page quotes Gounod's famous aria from Mireille, with the words "Chantez, chantez, Maximilienne!", adding: "en souvenir de l'adorable audition des mesures de Mireille!", Montpellier 12 January 1900. Two verses of Lamartine copied by Simone Le Bargy follow; and on the back, a quotation from Hamlet by Adeline Dudlay. Paris, January 1, 1889: "I am so proud, so happy to know that my music is interpreted by such a great artist! Tell it well to Madame Minnie Hauk!"... - Palais de Monaco February 11, 1907, to the conductor Léopold Ketten, modifying the program of a concert: "Choir (men): A. Amour B. Villanelle. Chorus (women): A Joie B aux Étoiles C les Bluets"; he adds: "Miss Lucy Arbell in Thérèse had an immense success! immense! What a tragedienne! What an artist!" - [End of October 1906], sending an orchestra chair to a friend [for the premiere of Ariadne]: "As I was complaining, as I was moaning yesterday at the opera ... here is our beautiful and touching Persephone of the 4th act: Miss Arbell understood my desire and knowing that the place was for you whom I love so much she deprived herself of this author's ticket so that I could offer it to you! That's nice!"... A postcard photo of Massenet is attached, and a photograph of Minnie Hauck by W. Höffert.
