Henri TOMASI. Autograph musical manuscript, La Mort d'Adonis, 1925; notebook of 28 folio pages plus title. Scène lyrique pour le concours du Prix de Rome 1925. This lyrical scene, based on a poem by Marcel Belvianes (printed libretto pasted at the head), features Adonis (tenor), Venus (soprano) and Apollo's Messenger (baritone or singing bass), with piano accompaniment. It was "performed at the session of the Institute on July 4, 1925, at 1:00 p.m.," notes Tomasi, who specifies the performers: Adonis, "Micheletti of the Opéra-Comique," Venus, "Mme Nespoulous of the Opéra," and Messager d'Apollon, "Moryn Trianon Lyrique." [Louis Fourestier was awarded the first grand prize; Tomasi was not nominated]. It begins Andante non troppo: "L'aurore aux pas légers s'avance"... The manuscript, in black ink on 20-line paper, contains a few corrections (deletions, scratches), and stage or action indications: "The scene represents a clearing in a wood at dawn", etc.
