Henri TOMASI. Autograph musical manuscript... - Lot 138 - Ader
Henri TOMASI. Autograph musical manuscript signed, L'Autre Mère, 1926; notebook of 25 folio pages plus title in titled folder, ink stamps of Xavier Tomasi, Henri's father. Scène lyrique pour le concours de composition musicale du Prix de Rome 1926. This lyrical scene, based on a poem by Henry de Forge (printed libretto enclosed), features the Old Man (baritone), the Mother (soprano), and a Woman (mezzo-soprano), with piano accompaniment. It was performed at the Institute on July 3, 1926, with the author at the piano (program pasted on the folder); Tomasi indicated the cast on the title page: the Old Man, "Musy de l'Opéra-Comique," Marie, "Marguerite Soyer de l'Opéra comique," and A Woman, "Frosier-Marrot de l'Opéra." [René Guillou was awarded the first grand prize; Tomasi was not nominated]. It begins Moderato Lento: "At last, here is calm at the bottom of this garden"... The manuscript, in black ink on 20-line paper, shows some corrections by scratching, and shades indicated in pencil.
