Henri TOMASI. Autograph music manuscript,... - Lot 140 - Ader
Henri TOMASI. Autograph music manuscript, Heracles at Delphi, 1928; 42 pages folio plus masthead and title. Scène lyrique for the 1928 Prix de Rome music composition competition. This lyrical scene, based on a poem by René Puaux (printed libretto enclosed), features Heracles, Voluptuousness and Virtue, with piano accompaniment. It was performed at the Institute on June 30, 1928, with the author and Lucette Descaves at the piano (program pasted on the folder); Tomasi indicated the cast on the title page: G. Micheletti (tenor) from the Opéra-Comique, Mme Cesbron-Viseur, professor at the Conservatoire, and Mme Mathilde Calvet, from the Opéra-Comique. [Raymond Loucheur was awarded the first grand prize; Tomasi was not nominated; he had been first runner-up in 1927 for Coriolan]. It begins with an instrumental introduction by Marcato, before the first scene: "J'entends encor sa voix"... The manuscript, carefully noted on 20-line paper, is dated at the end "Fontainebleau 18 June 1928". In addition to numerous didascalies, it contains corrections by scratching, as well as indications added in pencil. At the end, a press clipping of a report of the session, by André Fijan, very complimentary towards Tomasi, has been pasted.
