- Pauline VIARDOT. L.A.S., Paris 20 May 1889,... - Lot 146 - Ader
- Pauline VIARDOT. L.A.S., Paris 20 May 1889, [to Victorien Joncières]; 3 pages in-8 in his cipher (small mourning). On Gluck's Orpheus. She thanks Joncières for his article in La Liberté evoking "the performance of Orphée at the Théâtre lyrique [in 1859]. You have made me happy and proud at the same time". She makes one correction: 'The bravura aria with which the first act of the French Orpheus ends was imposed on me by Berlioz, as was all his reworking of the role, and the cadence at the end was done half by Berlioz, half by Saint-Saëns. This is what is generally ignored, unfortunately for me.
