Philippe BOESMANS (born 1936). Autograph... - Lot 194 - Ader
Philippe BOESMANS (born 1936). Autograph musical manuscript, Sur Mi, 1974; 7 sheets 36,3 x 54 cm. Work for two pianos, electric organ and percussion (crotales and tam-tam). Dedicated to the musicologist Philippe Dewonck, it was premiered at the Festival d'art contemporain de Royan on March 29, 1974, by the pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, Bernard Fouccroulle on organ and Jean-Pierre Drouet on percussion. It lasts 13 minutes. [WD33]. "For this piece, which is close to entertainment, Philippe Boesmans chose a form close to the classical rondo: a refrain is heard verbatim three times, once at the beginning and twice towards the end of the work. It is here that the composer's attention is focused on the harmonic work" (Valérie Dufour). According to Philippe Boesmans, 'the E in Sur Mi is like a detonator that can make the harmony explode'. The manuscript bears the dedication 'to Philippe Dewonck' at the top and the date 'February 1974' at the end. It is carefully written in Indian ink on the front of large oblong sheets of tracing paper, presenting for each page (except the last one) 2 systems of 6 staves plus one or two lines for the percussion. Discography: Musiques nouvelles ensemble, under the direction of Jean-Paul Dessy (Cypres, 2011)
