Robert Doisneau (1912 - 1994) Ballade pour violoncelle et chambre noire, c. 1950. Original model bound with a metal spiral for the publication of the book Ballade pour violoncelle et chambre noire by Robert Doisneau and Maurice Baquet, composed of 40 vintage silver prints (29 prints on matte card stock, numbered on the image, some dated "1977", and 11 prints on glossy paper). Handwritten text by Maurice Baquet. Handwritten dedication on the title page from Robert Doisneau to Georges Fèvre (his printer) : "Giving photographs to Georges Fèvre is like giving sand to a Tuareg. Never mind, to tell him of my friendship, here is the model of a book (with the first text by my friend Baquet) which has waited some thirty years to appear. Robert Doisneau". Average size: 27 x 21 cm A copy of the book published by Herscher in 1981 is attached . Provenance : Collection of the family of Georges Fèvre . 17 photographs are unpublished and have not been reproduced in the book of 1981. Ballade pour Violoncelle et chambre noire relates the friendship between the cellist and actor Maurice Baquet and the photographer Robert Doisneau, whom the latter called his "teacher of happiness".
